Texas Tech University
After completing the West Village Residence Halls at Texas Tech, BGKA and Mackey Mitchell Architects collaborated again on Honors Residence Hall. Located near the Rawls College of Business Administration, the coed hall is conceived as a living/learning community primarily for freshman and returning students. The design of the hall promotes community and collaboration among the diverse group of Honors College students with varying backgrounds and interests. Utilizing a pod concept to create small communities, the hall features 313 beds, community bathrooms and study areas (assigned to each pod), large social lounges, a 50-seat multipurpose room, and a full-service Starbucks. Although the interior design and amenities of the four-story hall are modern, the exterior architecture style respects the characteristic Spanish Renaissance style of Texas Tech. Through a collaborative team approach, construction was completed in just 17 months and opened for the 2017 semester.
