Townes Hall Auditorium Classrooms Renovations

Townes Hall (TNH), built in 1951, serves as the original centerpiece of The University of Texas at Austin’s prestigious School of Law complex. Since 2013, BGK has collaborated closely with the School of Law on various planning initiatives, feasibility studies, donor campaigns, and renovation projects. The 1L classroom suite for first-year law students is our third built project for the school. It involved a comprehensive renovation of four outdated auditorium classrooms and their adjoining circulation spaces, elevating the design to reflect the school’s esteemed reputation and forward-looking vision.

BGK’s goal was to design spaces that would enhance the experience of current students and attract prospective ones. The renovation encompassed updates to furniture, finishes, lighting, audiovisual and technology systems, and essential mechanical and electrical infrastructure. New lounge seating in the corridor, including built-in banquettes, was introduced to provide comfortable areas for students to gather before and after classes. In addition, BGK worked with the School of Law to develop cohesive branding and signage, paying tribute to key donors. To minimize disruption to daily campus life, construction was carefully phased over the summers of 2023 and 2024. This project exemplifies BGK’s dedication to creating functional student-centered educational environments and our commitment to fostering enduring partnerships with our clients.
