Townes Hall, built in 1951, is the original building and architectural centerpiece of the University of Texas at Austin School of Law complex. The courtyard and plaza on the north side of Townes Hall, having remained mostly unchanged since the early 1980s, was austere, barren and hot and in need of major upgrades to fulfill the school’s desire to have more functional and comfortable social spaces for students and faculty to gather outdoors.

The scope of work includes new underground utilities, hardscape, softscape, lighting and site furnishings. The focal point of the new design is two open-air steel canopies that provide shade and, along with new signage, give the UT School of Law a strong visual presence from Dean Keeton Street.
